Root Change was among the first to use social network analysis (SNA) in the development sector. We have worked with organizations in over 25 countries to map and analyze social systems. Our approach to SNA involves developing the capacity of organizations to co-design network maps and facilitate dialogues about the system with local stakeholders to draw out actionable insights together.
Pando is more than systems mapping
Our Pando Tool Suite combines social network analysis, constituent voice feedback, analytic dashboards, and stakeholder dialogues to assess power structures, levels of trust, collaboration practices, and communication gaps in local systems.
Unlike traditional mapping efforts, the Pando Tool Suite uses customizable web-based relationship surveys to identify diverse organizations within a system and track and update relationships over time. Participatory, interactive network maps are cloud-based and allow system actors to visualize the organizations and relationships within their system without lag time for preparation and analysis. Data filters and analysis tools help users uncover key actors, areas of collaboration, network structures, and power dynamics. Interactive dashboards are easy-to-use and appeal to audiences such as donors, MEL professionals, program managers, program participants, and local system stakeholders. Feedback and perception surveys give more insight into the quality of relationships, strengths of the network, and areas for improvement.
Built into Pando is extensive experience and expertise analyzing systems, which has led to the development of our Localization Learning System and Equity Index, which measure whether outsiders are fostering local ownership and voice while working in a local system.
