Root Change serves as the Capacity Strengthening technical lead for the $99 million Inclusive Development and Equitable Assistance (IDEA) Leader with Associate Award funded by USAID’s Inclusive Development Hub. The IDEA Award seeks to enhance the technical and organizational capacities of organizations led by and serving marginalized and underserved communities including people with disabilities, LGBTQI+ individuals, indigenous peoples, children in adversity, older persons, women, youth, and various racial, ethnic, religious, and linguistic minorities. The program is managed centrally over a five-year period (2023-2028) by the Education Development Center, and its consortium partners, including Root Change, WIHER, Christian Blind Mission, Global Changemakers, HelpAge International, ILGA World, the International Rescue Committee, Keystone Human Services International, and the World Institute on Disability.
IDEA is designed to address the unique needs and priorities of marginalized and underserved communities through a series of strategic actions. These include conducting comprehensive mappings to understand the needs of marginalized groups, collaborating with USAID and other partners to support inclusive development ecosystems, and implementing both short and long-term programming at country and regional levels.
One of the key components of the IDEA Award is the issuance of small grants aimed at strengthening the organizational capacities of the groups identified. This is complemented by additional capacity-building support that enhances organizational, systemic, and compliance capabilities. Root Change will lead this work, including the design and implementation of the small grants mechanism.
In addition, IDEA will establish an inclusive rapid response mechanism to address urgent challenges. The project will also facilitate learning and knowledge sharing among donors and practitioners seeking to advance inclusive development.
