Root Change launched the Community Independence Initiative (CII) in 2022 in New York as a pilot program in collaboration with The Child Center of New York. CII empowers families by recognizing their capabilities and fostering mutual support networks through a phased approach consisting of start-up, baseline, investment, and virtual networking. The program focuses on family goals, increasing income, business growth, and mutual assistance. Families participate by sharing data through monthly journals, which are used as both a learning tool for the organization and a reflection tool for the families themselves.
Root Change guided and supported the implementation of the CII. We provided customized family journal surveys, analyzed data , and created visual reports for families. Root Change organized training workshops for Family Liaisons and facilitated internal learning conversations to enhance the program’s effectiveness. Their contribution was crucial in ensuring that the CII was implemented successfully and that families were empowered to take charge of their own initiatives.
